CHRISTIAN HOME EDUCATORS ASSOCIATION, INC.
JOIN US:
In an effort to maintain the 'one in spirit & purpose' atmosphere as set forth in Philippians 2:1-5, we require that members agree with the statement of faith and statement of purpose in our by-laws. Further, we ask that all families agree to abide by our code of conduct. Please review these items, found in the left side-bar of this page. If you find that our beliefs and purposes complement those of your family, we invite you to join our support group.
You may print an application and view the subgroup options by clicking on the links to the left. If you have any questions, feel free to leave a message on our phone-line (352-351-CHEA).
Please be sure to fill out attachment A of the application if someone other than the parents will be bringing the child(ren) to CHEA functions. PLEASE NOTE: Incomplete applications will be processed last.
Please realize that WEBSITE AND E-MAIL ARE PRIMARY TOOLS OF COMMUNICATION WITHIN CHEA.
For a child to participate in CHEA activities, the child MUST be home schooled and his/her family a member of CHEA. Children are considered home schooled if they:
1. Register with the county or an umbrella school,
2. Keep a portfolio,
3. Receive an annual evaluation,
4. Follow ALL home schooling laws.
*Exception: If your child is 4 years old and will turn 5 during the current school year (by May 1st) but you will be home schooling at the kindergarten level, you may join CHEA and participate in select activities if you keep a portfolio and have the child evaluated at the end of the year. ONLY children meeting ALL these requirements can be listed as being home schooled on your enrollment form.
*Exception: Families with the oldest child being a preschooler may join CHEA on a limited basis. These children can participate in Jogging Club, Performing and Fine Arts Fair & Lego Challenge, and Anthology. They cannot participate in the Year-end Program. Parents may participate in MNO's, Park Days, and other subgroup activities on a limited basis.
In Florida you may register your child with the county or an umbrella school if he/she will be five years old by September 1 and will turn six before February 1. If he/she does not turn six before February 1, you may wait until the following year to register. If you choose to begin home education before the age of five, it is strongly suggested that you maintain all proper portfolio records as proof of your work with that child in the event questions are reaised should you need to enroll in public school.
